A&S; Curriculum Committee Minutes, 02/26/02

The minutes of the meeting of February 12 were corrected to clarify that the July 1 deadline for petitions for readmission for the fall semester applied not only to Fall 2002, but also to years thereafter.

The committee discussed the proposed joint JD/MA in Political Science with Professors Rhodebeck and Ziegler. It was noted that the proposal was modeled closely on the JD/MA in Humanities. Nine hours in law courses would be applied toward the MA in Political Science. The proposal was approved and will be forwarded the Graduate School.

Changes to the BA-BS/MA in Sociology were approved and will be forwarded to the Graduate School. The minimum gpa for admission to the combined program will be changed from 3.25 to 3.35. The maximum hours of coursework which may be taken as an undergraduate and applied to both degrees was increased from six hours to nine hours.

The cross-list of WMST 538: American Women in Sport was changed from PED 529 to SPAD 529 to reflect prefix changes made by the College of Education. All prerequisites were removed, again to conform to the CEHD course.

The committee concurred with the recommendation from the General Education Course Committee to approve an exception to the requirements for Written Communication to permit students to fulfill the first three hours of the WC requirement in either a course in the Department of English OR an approved Honors substitute. Four such honors courses have been approved for Fall 2002.

The committee discussed the proposal for the Ph.D. in Humanities with Dr. Allen.
