A&S; Curriculum Committee Minutes, 11/13/01

Twelve Anthropology courses proposed for General Education were removed from the agenda at the request of the department.

The following course actions were approved, effective Fall 2002. Graduate courses must also be approved by the Graduate School and General Education courses must be approved by the General Education Course Committee.

MCS 210: Introduction to Computational Tools and Programs (new course; GE-CL) [This course will require the creation of a new course identifier: Mathematics Computational Science. Courses in this area would not apply toward the minimum or maximum hours in mathematics for mathematics majors.]

PHIL 206: Introduction to Philosophy through Literature and Film (new course; GE-HUM)
ML 160: Hispanic Contributions to the World (new course; GE-HUM and CD1) (approved pending revisions)
HUM 387: The Holocaust (GE-CD2) (The co-list of HIST 387 has already been approved for CD2.)
PAS 364/WMST 347: Racism and Sexism (GE-CD1) (approved pending receipt of revised syllabus and CIF corrections)

The committee did not approve the following for CD:
ML 151: French Creole Cultures of the Caribbean
PAS 384/GEOG 362: Disease and Ecology in Africa

Six courses for CD from Theatre Arts were returned to the department for additional information, specifically the way in which the CD goals would be addressed in the courses.

Action on Biology courses was deferred until a departmental representative could be present.

Action was deferred on PAS 365: Multicultural Psychology for CD until several issues involving removal of the cross-list with PSYC 366 could be clarified.

Other course actions:

COMM 560: Web Site Development II (approved, pending receipt of a syllabus which indicates the differences in work for graduate and undergraduate credit)
CHEM 101: Introduction to Chemistry (addition of a one-hour recitation component; no change in credit hours)
CHEM 105: Chemistry for Health Professionals (addition of a one-hour recitation component; no change in credit hours)
Changes to the descriptions of CHEM 547, 647, 545, and 645.
WMST 326/ENGL 374: Gender and Children's Literature (new course)
WMST 520/ENGL 554: Women's Personal Narrative (new course)
WMST 601: Feminist Research in the Humanities (new course)
PAS 532: Slave Trade and Slavery in the African World (approved pending receipt of clarifications to the syllabus information on grading; there was also concern that the undergraduate format allowed a student to have no feed-back on grades prior to the end of the course.)
PAS 533: History and Popular Culture of the African Diaspora to be returned to the department for a new syllabus and clarification of grading procedures.
