Professor Morrill called the meeting to order at 2:00 pm. The minutes of the meeting of April 16 were approved as corrected from draft copy. The copy posted on the College web site will be the corrected copy. The Committee approved a proposal from the Theatre Arts Department to create a concentration in Musical Theatre in the BFA in Theatre Arts. Students in this concentration are not subject to the college policy permitting no more than 4 hours in applied music to count toward an Arts and Sciences degree, and this exception will be noted in the undergraduate catalog (p. 62) when it is next revised. The concentration requires 25 hours in Music, of which 12 are applied music, 8 are in theory, and 5 are music electives. (The music electives may also be in applied music.) Pending Provost's Office approval, the new concentration will be effective 97F. The committee also approved a proposal from the Theatre Arts Department to raise the minimum program GPA requirements for admission/retention of majors in the BFA. The current requirement for admission/retention in the major is a minimum GPA of 3.0 in Theatre Arts courses and a 2.0 overall. Effective for students admitted 97F, BFA majors must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in Theatre Arts courses and a 2.5 overall. The department will monitor student status. Admission to the BA in Theatre Arts is not affected by this change. The committee approved the deletion of the cross-list between BIOL 357:Microbiology and HED 357: Microbiology. The School of Education will discontinue HED 357. As both courses are printed in the 97-98 schedule of courses, the change will not become effective until 98U. The committee voted not to approve the change of grading option to P/F in PSYC 400: Research Practicum. The reason for this decision was the College policy which prohibits students taking courses in the major on a P/F basis. Additional course actions proposed by the Department of Psychology were deferred until a member of the department could be present to answer questions about them. The committee adjourned at 2:55 pm.
