Filing an Informal Report with the Title IX Office
Title IX distinguishes between Informal Reports and Formal Complaints. An Informal Report may be submitted by anyone to notify the university that sexual misconduct may have occurred. A Formal Complaint is a document signed by a complainant requesting an official investigation and resolution process.
Upon receiving an Informal Report, the Title IX Office will:
- keep the reported information as private as possible, while staying within the law and university policy;
- work with the complainant to meet their support needs; and
- discuss options for moving forward under university policy.
Making an Informal Report to the university does not require a complainant to file a Formal Complaint.
