How to Apply to UofL

Transferring to UofL?

Use this checklist to guide you through the transfer process.  PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!

To apply:

Step 1:  Complete Application

Visit the Admissions website to apply online.

Pay the $50 application fee with a credit or debit card when you apply.

If you have earned less that 24 college credits, you must send your official high school transcript and ACT scores to the Office of Admissions (see address below).

Send an official transcript from EVERY college you have attended to UofL. You can download the JCTC transcript release form (PDF) or pick one up on the first floor of JEC building on the JCTC downtown campus. The cost is $5. Have the form mailed to:

To petition for admission please complete the Online Admissions Petition Form

Step 2: Complete the FAFSA
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you haven't already and update existing FAFSA by adding  UofL’s school code 001999.    

**Make sure to do this BEFORE Nov. 1 for the spring semester, June 1 for the fall semester to allow time for processing.



Contact your home institution to inform them that you will not be enrolled the next semester.  JCTC requires that you go to the Financial Aid office and give them written notification that you will be transferring your financial aid to a different college.

Step 3: Apply for Scholarships
Apply for the KCTCSTransfer Scholarship if you are transferring in the summer or fall, have 40 or more credits  and a GPA of 3.25 or better.  Your last semester coursework must be from a KCTCS institution.

** If you are eligible and are a Spring transfer, you can still apply for the scholarship, which will be awarded the Summer or Fall semester after you are already transferred. 

Step 4: Keep an Eye Out!
Look for a letter in the mail telling you that you have been admitted and what to do next!

After you have been Admitted:

Step 5: ULink
Set up your ULink account using your new student ID and the directions in your acceptance letter.

Step 6: Transcripts
Have a final transcript sent at the end of the semester after grades have been posted. Put a note on the request saying that it must be “General Education Certified”. If you have applied for the KCTCS Scholarship, your final transcript is due by May 30th. 

Step 7: Transfer Orientation
Register for transfer orientation. To register click on the "Register" link on the transfer orientation website next to the date of the orientation you wish to attend.  The cost is $40.  The released dates for Transfer orientation for Summer/Fall 2013 are:

  • June 5
  • July 11
  • August 22

Please read the instructions at the orientation website carefully and notice that the registration webform can be accessed from the tab at the top of the screen.   If you have questions, contact the ULtra office or the UofL Orientation office at 502-852-7276. 

Step 8: Advising

Make an appointment with an advisor from your college.
