The June 30, 2014 deadline for Plone 4 conversion is quickly approaching! Departments have until this date to rebuild their current Plone 3 site in the Plone 4 environment. This course is designed for those that are/will be in charge of their UofL site and is Step #1 for the planning phase of this project. (Plone users that will not manage their site should choose from “Plone 4 Basics” training courses.) We’ll start at the beginning and examine how to request a new staging site, check out the new templates in-depth to help you choose a theme, discover how Responsive Web Design works, and cover how you can register for Site Administrator training. Next, you’ll have hands-on computer training on the NEW features with this version, including how to use the TinyMCE visual editor. You’ll practice skills that differ from the Plone 3 version including using the Green Toolbar, adding internal and external email and hyperlinks, using the university-wide credit card function, and utilizing the QuickEdit feature for EASE in creating forms. Also new with Plone 4 is the Flash Video functionality. You’ll learn how to request an account on the Flash Server, steps for mapping a drive to setup the WebDAV connection, and adding the video. You’ll be provided with instructions on how to make videos ADA compliant, as well as practice adding images that are ADA accessible. As with all Plone courses we’ll cover saving, previewing, and publishing your work, plus show you how Site Admins can create a working copy when editing… all new processes when using Plone 4. Come join us as we play in the Plone 4 sandbox!
