Lenovo Access Connections Wireless Setup

This short guide contains step-by-step instructions on how to connect your Lenovo Access Connections device to the University of Louisville's secure wireless network "ulsecure".

 

1. Open the ThinkVantage Access Connections Software

 

2. Click the Location Profiles tab
If you see Switch to:Advanced in the upper right, click that button
If you see Switch to:Basic in the upper right, do not click

 

3. The window should look like the one below.
If you have any profiles called UofL, remove them.
Click Create to create a new Network Profile

 

4. Name the profile UofL
Connection Type should be Best Available or Wireless LAN
- If you choose Wireless LAN, this profile will not work with ethernet
Click Next

 

5. Network name (SSID): ulsecure
Connection type: Infrastructure
Wireless security: Use 802.1x or other security

 

Click Properties under Wireless security type

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

6. The following values should be selected

Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
Encryption type: AES
Choose a network authentication method: Microsoft: Protected EAP

 

Click Settings next to Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

7. Under Trusted Root Certification Authorities, check the box for
VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5

 

8. Select Authentication Method should be:
Secure Password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
Click Configure

 

9. Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon ... and click OK

 

10. Click OK on the Protected EAP Properties page to return to the wireless settings page
Click Settings under Advanced configuration

 

11. Select Maximum Performance for the Power save mode
This setting can provide more reliable wireless connections, but will reduce battery life
Click OK

 

 

12. Click Next to see the Additional Settings page and click Finish

13. You should receive a message asking you to Apply this profile.  Click Yes

 

14. You will see a message at the bottom of the screen asking for additional information
Click on the message (do not click the X in the upper right hand corner).

 

15. You will be prompted to Authenticate
Enter your Ulinkusername and password
