Networking

UofL has a high-speed campus ethernet data network that interconnects over 120 buildings on three campuses. The main campus backbone network runs at 40Gbps over the University's city-wide fiber optic network. Departments can order ethernet network connections for computers and servers at data rates of 10/100/1000Mbps. All campus wired network connections are switched, not shared, ensuring performance and reliability.

The campus network gives faculty, staff and students access to campus servers (e-mail, PeopleSoft), the Internet, and research networks (such as Internet2). Residence halls provide a 100/1000Mbps ethernet connection for each resident.

Added services that can be provided through the network include firewalls to protect departmental servers, departmental print services, and network file services.

UofL has a campus cable TV infrastructure that serves the residence halls and most campus buildings.
