CHAPTER 33 - VETERANS
The Post 9/11 G I Bill pays tuition and fees, a monthly housing allowance and a book stipend. All benefits are paid on a sliding scale based on the length of service. (See scale below)

Tuition
VA pays in state resident tuition rate for undergraduate, graduate and professional programs
Basic Allowance for Housing
The Basic Allowance for Housing is calculated for the zip code at U of L (40292) and is currently $1251.00 per month. Those enrolled solely in distance education courses will be entitled to ½ the national average BAH of $1,429 ($714.50) per month. The housing allowance is paid one month behind, on the 1st of each month.
For example: The first day of the fall term is 08/25/14 and the housing allowance to be paid on 9/1 will be for the last 6 days of August only. The first full housing payment for the fall term will be around October 1st for the month of September.
Book Stipend
The book stipend is $41.67 per credit hour to a maximum of 24 credit hours per calendar year, up to a maximum of $1,000.00. The book allowance is generally sent out two weeks prior to the start of each semester (as long as benefits have been requested).

Receipt of the book allowance and the housing stipend are dependent upon certification.
