The LGBTQ Summit is a day-long series of educational events designed for health professionals and community members to improve skills in education, research and care for LGBTQ patients. CME credit is offered. Register for each session separately.

Keynote Speaker:  Jennifer Potter, M.D., associate professor of medicine, advisory dean and director of the Castle Society at Harvard Medical School, Director of Women’s Health Research at The Fenway Institute

An international expert on women’s and LGBTQ health, Dr. Potter has dedicated her career to enhancing care for these populations via clinical innovation, educational leadership and quality improvement research. A staunch advocate for curricular inclusion and optimizing the learning environment, Dr. Potter is a founding member of the Association of American Medical Colleges AXIS Committee, which published groundbreaking medical education guidelines that are being implemented nationwide to improve care for people with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and sex development. Dr. Potter will facilitate the first three sessions.

1. Workshop (8:30-9:30am) Converting Medical Educational Materials to Scholarship
A workshop for those in medical education with a desire to produce scholarly materials, regardless of educational topic.

2. Workshop (10am-11:30am) Transforming Potential Minefields into Learning Opportunities
A solutions-focused workshop to increase self-awareness of one's own biases and develop skills for how to respond productively to witnessed microaggressions (i.e. hurtful comments) made by others within the health care environment. This session will be co-facilitated to address a wide range of experiences.

3. Medical Educator Grand Rounds (noon-1pm) Patient-Centered Care for LGBT Populations
A clinically rich lecture that will provide guidance on how to take a social history across multiple identities, take a sexual history appropriate for persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities, and conduct a trauma-informed physical exam. RSVP required for lunch.

4. Community Forum (1:15-2:15pm) Creating a Network for Patients and Providers
This community forum will provide an opportunity for the health care community to have small group discussions with LGBT community members to create a state-wide network of LGBT-friendly providers and enhance an understanding of this patient base.

5. Workshop (2:30-4pm) Transgender Hormone Protocols
This workshop will provide training in how to prescribe hormone therapy for transgender patients. This session will be co-led by local physicians and members of the trans community
