Samer Z. Al-Quran, M.D., is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspeciality certification in Hematology (Hematopathology). He graduated from the College of Medicine at Jordan University of Science and Technology in Irbid, Jordan. He completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Florida, where he obtained focused training in genitourinary pathology with Dr. William M. Murphy. Following residency, he completed a Surgical Oncologic Pathology fellowship at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he furthered his expertise in genitourinary, breast and general surgical oncologic pathology. After that, He worked as a Hematopathology fellow at the University of Florida under the tutelage of Dr. Raul C. Braylan, one of the world’s foremost authorities on flow cytometry.
Dr. Al-Quran joins the University of Louisville after working for more than 10 years at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, where he served as the director of Breast Pathology from 2008 to 2016, Director of the Surgical Pathology Fellowship from 2014 to 2016, and Associate Director of the Hematopathology Fellowship from 2012-2016. He also served as an attending hematopathologist and provided coverage to a wide spectrum of services in surgical pathology.
Dr. Al-Quran has diverse research interests that reflect his areas of clinical responsibility. His primary area of interest is in the application of flow cytometry in the diagnosis and classification of hematolymphoid neoplasia and in developing new diagnostic techniques. He has authored more than 65 publications including original articles, abstracts and book chapters, and has given many invited talks, workshops and lectures at national and international conferences.
