Research Description:

For twenty-five years Dr. Rodu has published research on tobacco harm reduction, involving the adoption of vastly safer tobacco products by smokers who are unable or unwilling to quit with conventional cessation methods.  He has collaborated with other investigators to publish (1) studies of constituent levels in smokeless tobacco (ST) products, (2) the first smoking cessation trial employing an ST product, (3) descriptive and analytic epidemiologic studies of the prevalence of, and the mortality attributable to smoking, ST use and vaping (4) the impact of current and former smoking and ST use on overweight and obesity, (5) the impact of ST use on smoking prevalence and mortality in Sweden and Europe, (6) the perceptions of the health risks related to cigarettes, ST, nicotine and secondhand smoke.
