Perry co-edits book on George H.W. Bush presidency
Barbara Perry, a senior fellow at the University of Virginia’s Miller Center and a non-resident McConnell Center Fellow, is the co-editor of 41: Inside the Presidency of George H.W. Bush.
The book, co-edited with Rhodes College’s Michael Nelson and published earlier this year by Cornell University Press, considers the single term presidency of George H.W. Bush, which encompassed the fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification of Germany, the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the invasion of Panama, the Persian Gulf War and the contentious confirmation hearings over Clarence Thomas and John Tower.
The book draws on interviews with senior White House and Cabinet officials conducted through the Bush Oral History Project, a cooperative effort between the University of Virginia’s Miller Center and the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation.
Book contributors examined how Bush organized and staffed his administration, operated on an international stage, followed his own brand of Republican conservatism, handled legislative affairs and made judicial appointments.
