Louisville, Ky. (September 3, 2024) - The McConnell Center welcomes U.S. Army Colonel Michael J. Miller and Colonel Thomas A. Carver as our U.S. Army War College Fellows at the University of Louisville. The one-year appointment will allow Miller and Carver to take UofL classes to broaden their strategic thinking and interact with university leadership.

This is the 11th year UofL has participated in the program, which is based at the Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The program is designed to help Army leaders sharpen their skills and broaden their outlook as strategic thinkers. There are Fellows in U.S. universities, government departments, government-funded agencies, think tanks and industries.

Miller, prior to his arrival at UofL, served as the Chief of the Army Secretariat. After completing his Army War College Fellowship, he will serve as the J-1 for Joint Special Operations Command. Previous assignments include serving as a G-1 at the 82nd Airborne Division, JMD Manager and Chief of Special Actions at CENTCOM, and J-1 at Special Operations Joint Task Force.

“It is a tremendous opportunity to be selected to serve as a 2024-25 Army War College Fellow at the University of Louisville," said Miller. "The McConnell Center provides a rare atmosphere that allows for reflection and development of thought while providing unique opportunities to gain knowledge and leadership skills from some of the brightest students in Kentucky and notable leaders from across the country.  I am blessed and will be of service to this great country, the Army, the University of Louisville, and the McConnell Center for many years to come.”

COL Carver, prior to his arrival at UofL, served as the Multi-Functional Logistics Branch Chief. Previous assignments include service as a Commander, 3-409th Brigade Support Battalion, Fort Knox, KY; Commander, HHC, 173rd Brigade Support Battalion, Bamberg Germany; and Executive Officer to the United Nations Command Chief of Staff.

"UofL was my first choice when selecting an Army War College Fellow program," said Carver. "The military programs hosted here and the talented McConnell Scholars will make this a year to remember."

The McConnell Scholars and staff are looking forward to growing and learning together with our Fellows this year!
