Director delivers keynote address at 'American Statesmanship and Constitutionalism Colloquium'
McConnell Center Director Gary Gregg, PhD, will deliver the keynote address at the Rochester Institute of Technology's "American Statesmanship and Constitutionalism Colloquium (1776-1865)." His lecture, entitled, "The Moral Imagination in Washington's Statesmanship," will take place today at 7 p.m. in the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science auditorium.
The free conference, which complements RIT’s degree program in political science, aims to explore the nature of political leadership, including the qualities and virtues of a statesman, how to determine the difference between tyranny and statesmanship, and these relate to the concept of American constitutionalism.
Conference roundtable sessions will focus on the theory of statesmanship, its practice in the Federalist Papers, and how John Adams, Henry Clay and Abraham Lincoln each embodied the principles of statesmanship.
