Professor Arnold's book added to proposed Harvard urban design course syllabus
Professor Tony Arnold's book,"Fair and Healthy Land Use: Environmental Justice and Planning," published by the American Planning Association in 2007, has been added to a proposed course syllabus developed by African American students at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. The students designed their own course syllabus for their urban design course to address race and justice, claiming those issues were not being addressed in the curriculum.
The syllabus was created in response to a panel discussion co-sponsored by the African American Student Union of Harvard's Graduate School of Design, which was held last month and reported by Al Jazeera America.
The Atlantic's CityLab reported more details about this hypothetical syllabus, including which texts would be included. Professor Arnold's book was listed as the second reading on the list.
Professor Arnold said attention to race and justice in urban design is long overdue.
