Prof. Sweeny on obscenity, pornography and the First Amendment
In an article for LEO Weekly, Brandeis Law Professor JoAnne Sweeny outlines the history of free speech and obscenity laws in the United States.
"To average people, obscenity could be synonymous with pornography or other sexually explicit materials. To lawyers and First Amendment scholars, however, whether something is legally 'obscene' is a key question, and the answer is not at all obvious," Sweeny writes.
