Human Rights Advocacy fellows learn about local services available to immigrants
Brandeis Human Rights Advocacy Program (HRAP) fellows met with Jesús Ibáñez of La Casita Center on April 1, 2019, to discuss current immigration issues in Louisville. La Casita Center aims to intentionally build a thriving Latinx community through education, empowerment, advocacy and wellness.
One aspect of La Casita Center’s holistic approach to community-based empowerment is to provide affordable legal services to immigrants living in Louisville. HRAP fellows learned about growing efforts to aid asylum-seekers in applying and obtaining asylum in the United States.
Ibáñez is a 2018 graduate of the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law and works as a legal services community liaison at La Casita Center.
