High school students: Spend a week learning about the law this summer
The Louisville Bar Association is accepting applications for its Summer Law Institute, a program for high school students interested in the law or legal careers.
The 2018 program, scheduled for June 10-16, is a partnership between the LBA, the Brandeis School of Law and Bellarmine University and is funded, in part, by the Louisville Bar Foundation. It provides a well-rounded intensive program, aimed at providing students insight into the profession.
"One of the institute's strengths is showing students that a career in the law is an option for them, even if they’ve never met a lawyer," says Brandeis Law Professor Justin Walker, who volunteered at the 2017 program. "I know of an excellent current law student who might never have imagined becoming a lawyer if the student had not attended the Summer Law Institute in high school."
Students hear from local lawyers, judges and law professors and tour courthouses. The week ends with a mock trial.
The application deadline is April 11. Tuition is $200 per student. Some scholarships are available to those who qualify.
