Brian Wells (’04) named President of the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation

Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs, LLP has announced that G. Brian Wells, Brandeis School Class of 2004, has been named President of the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation (EMLF) for 2015-2016.

Wells assumed the role at the annual board of trustees meeting during the organization’s 36th Annual Institute.

According to a news release, the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation is a national nonprofit educational organization which fosters the study of the laws and regulations related to natural resource development and energy use. The Foundation is an Accredited Provider of Mandatory Continuing Legal Education programs, AAPL and other professional recertification credits, and provides opportunities for professional development through committee participation, program planning, public speaking and publishing of original work. The Energy & Mineral Law Foundation is governed by a board comprised of permanent trustees designated by EMLF Governing Member Organizations, Trustees at Large, and all Past Presidents of the Foundation. The Officers, Members of the Executive Committee and Trustees at Large are elected annually.

Wells concentrates his practice in the area of corporate law, with an emphasis in mineral and energy acquisitions, divestitures and financings. In addition to his natural resources practice, he routinely advises clients on general business matters. He has also represented the Firm's energy clients in a variety of commercial litigation matters before both state and federal courts.

Wells is licensed to practice law in Kentucky and is based in Wyatt’s Lexington office. He has served on the EMLF Executive Committee and as Vice President, Treasurer and Chair of the EMLF Finance Committee. He is a director of the Kentucky Coal Association and a member of the Kentucky Oil and Gas Association, Lexington Coal Exchange, Indiana Coal Council, Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, and the Ohio Oil and Gas Association.

Wells has been recognized in Woodward/White’s The Best Lawyers in America for Mining Law and Kentucky Super Lawyers as a 2015 Rising Star.

He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky, his law degree from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law and his Master of Laws degree from Georgetown University.
