2L uses leadership position to push for NBA team in Louisville
In addition to being a second-year student at the Brandeis School of Law, Andrew Klump serves on the city council of Audubon Park, an incorporated city about three miles south of downtown Louisville.
He's using that position to advocate for what he says would be a positive change for Audubon Park and Louisville as a whole.
In December 2017, the city council passed a resolution supporting efforts to bring an NBA franchise to Louisville.
The resolution also calls on all of Louisville's 83 incorporated cities to support the idea. It echoes the sentiment expressed by a resolution Louisville Metro Council passed in February 2017.
"This proves the whole regional footprint idea that advocates have been pushing for," Klump says. "This is an opportunity for Louisville to showcase itself and foster economic development. Whether you're a fan of the NBA or not, those are advantages of a pro league. An NBA team would benefit the University of Louisville, as a higher profile for the city places this institution on a higher national platform both academically and athletically.”
Klump, who is in the second year of a two-year term on the council, says his involvement with city government ties into what he is learning in law school.
"Being able to develop policy, it's helped me be able to spot issues," he says.
Klump has advocated in favor bringing an NBA team to Louisville in several media outlets:

- Tony and Dwight, 840 WHAS
- The Bob Valvano Show, ESPN 680
