Why should YOU join Lambda Alpha Epsilon?

MEMBERSHIP ENTITLEMENTS: As a member of the American Criminal Justice Association-Lambda Alpha Epsilon, you are entitled to several benefits. The Entitlements the Association offers are granted to each individual member or earned through competitive activities. These entitlements include:

  • GENERAL MEMBERSHIP:  Upon acceptance into ACJA-LAE, members receive a membership certificate, membership card, membership pin and an ACJA-LAE Sticker.
  • National Journals and Newsletters
  • Job Information
  • Active members in our local chapter will earn a criminal justice cord to be worn at graduation (an active member in our local chapter is a paid national member who completes 5 involvement hours each semester).

 SCHOLASTIC HONOR AWARDS: In recognition of outstanding scholastic attainment in the field of the administration of criminal justice, a Certificate of Recognition and Keys (a distinctive charm/pin with the ACJA-LAE logo) are awarded to members who exemplify themselves academically. To obtain the Key Award, please fill out the Scholastic Honor Awards Form available on Site Map page of this web site.  Send the completed Form with a Certified Copy of your GPA transcript with the degree awarded to the Executive Secretary of Grand Chapter.  Candidates also must be members of the Association when they apply for the Key Awards.  Upon verification that the candidate meets the requirements for the Award, the Certificate of Recognition and Key Emblem will be mailed to the recipient.  Key Award recipients are also printed in the Association's National Newsletter.

Graduate Keys - are awarded to those members who meet the requirements with a Graduate/Master’s Degree. In order to qualify for a Graduate Key, a member's grade point average must be at least 3.5 on a scale of 4.0.

Gold Keys - are awarded to those members who meet the requirements with a Bachelor’s Degree. In order to qualify for a Gold Key, a member's grade point average must be at least 3.5 on a scale of 4.0.

 

COMPETITIVE AWARDS: Members may compete nationally for the following monetary awards:   

CONFERENCES: A weeklong National Conference and a 2-3 day Regional Conference is held every year.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

  • Student Paper Competition
  • Richard McGrath Memorial Fund Award
  • Ron Pincomb Memorial Fund Award

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

  • No GPA requirement
  • Only need 10 hours of CJ Coursework completed 
  • Can be any major
  • 5 service hours required per semester

APPLICATION PROCESS:

 

  • Applications must be received one (1) semester prior to graduation (Application Deadline Dates: Fall-September 30th, Spring-January 31st, Summer-June 30th)
  • Complete an application: LAE APPLICATION (PDF)
  • Submit completed application and $50 initiation fee* (via check or money order made out to ACJA-LAE) to Dr. Katie Hughes-Taylor in Brigman Hall, Rm 215.
Please note: the $50 initiation fee includes the annual dues for the first year only. Annual dues are $50.00 per member each year after.
