IRS Wage and Income Transcript

An IRS Wage and Income Transcript includes most of the information reported on an IRS Form W-2. It contains information from any employers who reported your income to the IRS during a particular tax year.  It includes the required items to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) verification process.

Who is required to submit this document?

Only submit an IRS Wage and Income Transcript if:

  • Your FAFSA has been selected for verification. Please check your ULink ‘Task’ list for a Verification form. AND,
  • Your verification form requests any W-2s if you worked in the tax year referenced on the form. AND,
  • You are unable to request or obtain copies of your W-2s from your employer.

Please note that pay-stubs cannot be used to complete the verification process.  If you are completing verification and are unable to obtain a W-2 from your employer, please see the information below:

  • The 2023-2024 Verification form will request income information for the 2021 tax year.
  • The 2022-2023 Verification form will request income information for the 2020 tax year.
