What is Kappa Delta Pi?

  • Membership - Kappa Delta Pi is an international honor society in education with over 50,000 members. Members include educators in all stages of their careers (i.e. students, novice and practicing teachers, administrators, professors, and retirees). John Dewey was the first Laureate chapter member. Other members include Jean Piaget, Eleanor Roosevelt, Nel Noddings, and Albert Einstein.
  • Mission - Kappa Delta Pi stands for knowledge, duty, and power. The KDP mission is to support and recognize scholarship and excellence in education.

How do I join Kappa Delta Pi?

  • Membership Criteria: All members must express an intention of continuing in the education field, exemplify worthy educational ideals and:
    • Undergraduate students - Be enrolled in an institution offering an education degree and have the intent to continue academically and professionally in the field of education;
      • Demonstrate leadership attributes and commitment to equity
      • Have completed at least 18 credits of collegiate course work
      • Have at least 6 credit hours in education course work programmed, in progress, or completed
      • Demonstrate a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater or ranking in the upper 20% of the school

    • Graduate students - Have graduate standing in an institution offering an education degree and have the intent to continue academically and professionally in the field of education;
      • Demonstrate leadership attributes and commitment to equity
      • Have completed at least 6 credit hours of graduate course work
      • Have at least 6 credit hours in education course work programmed, in progress, or completed
      • Demonstrate a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher for all graduate course work completed or ranking in the upper 18.75% of the institution or school.

    • If you do not yet meet the aforementioned criteria; however, still want to be involved, you may join as a Friend of Kappa Delta Pi. As a Friend of KDP, you may be involved in the chapter and participate in our events until you are eligible to be initiated into a fully pledged member.
