Student Support Initiatives

Scholarships, Student Recruitment, and Retention Programs

Student recruitment and retention are imperative to our success. We champion scholarships for diverse populations and implement support that enables students to complete their degrees. Academic support allows our students to go on to impact their communities through service-oriented careers.

Multicultural Teacher Recruitment Program (MTRP)

MTRP focuses on increasing the number of highly qualified, ethnically diverse elementary, middle, and secondary school teachers. The program recruits high school students interested in teaching, transitions community college students to a four-year institution, and connects professionals to graduate teaching preparation programs.

Student Mental Health and Wellness Nook

The Wellness Nook provides programming opportunities to create learning committees, remove barriers to access, and nurture overall student health. Our programs can identify at-risk first-year students and connect them with mentoring and other support services to ensure their success.

Emergency Support for Students

Unforeseen financial or personal emergencies can make it difficult for students to focus on academics. Our support services work with students to help them stay in school and progress toward their degrees in the event of an emergency.

Community Partnerships

As a Kentucky metropolitan research institution, UofL addresses the needs and interests of diverse communities locally, statewide, nationally, and internationally. The CEHD supports this initiative by working with the Louisville community through partnerships, outreach, scholarships, and engaged learning.

Early Learning Campus (ELC)

The ELC is a research and teacher-learning facility that serves members of the Louisville community by providing a full-day curriculum to young children from birth to Pre-K. Here young children, parents, teachers, and researchers connect dynamic learning and research.

College Student Athlete Health and Well Being

Our college is home to the Health and Sport Sciences Department. Our unique relationship with UofL Athletics connects us to collegiate athletes and mental health. We also support K-12 programming efforts for young athletes.

Cardinal Success Program

The Cardinal Success Program is an innovative collaboration between the Department of Counseling and Human Development and traditionally underserved Louisville communities. By design, it increases access to quality counseling and psychology services for residents in these areas. Graduate students work under licensed mental health professionals and UofL faculty to provide mental health services in schools and communities.

Early Child Research Center (ECRC)

The ECRC is a community of scholars that conducts research to evaluate services and practices that impact the outcomes of young children. Researchers embrace various innovative methods to increase understanding of a child’s development and early learning programs.

Human Resources, Organizational Leadership, and Learning

The Department of Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development drives innovation and provides traditional and non-traditional students with degrees and training to help them advance in their careers. Students focus on leadership, organization development, human resources, and workforce development to benefit individuals, organizations, and society.
