Since 1985, the Multicultural Teacher Recruitment Program (MTRP), formerly Minority Teacher Recruitment Project, provides an avenue to reduce the critical shortage of highly qualified teachers from multicultural backgrounds.
Purpose of the MTRP Scholarship:
- The MTRP Scholarship is designed for the advancement of full-time or part-time students pursuing an initial teacher certification and who identify as American Indian, Alaskan, Black, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and Asian American. The scholarship is open to all eligible students regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age.

Scholarship Qualifications
Individuals who qualify for MTRP Scholarships must:
- Be a U.S. citizen and a Kentucky resident
- Be working toward initial teaching certification
- Be admitted to the University of Louisville or qualify for admission at the time of application
- Be a full-time student (undergraduate: 12 hours, graduate: 9 hours) or part-time student (undergraduate: less than 12 hours, graduate: less than 9 hours)
- Hold a 2.75 cumulative grade point average (high school, college, or post-baccalaureate)
- Apply annually for the scholarship by submitting the attached Online Application
