PROGRAM FEE:$3100 includes airfare, hotels, conference fee, several meals, in-country transportation, and all group entrance fees to historical and cultural venues.

CREDITS AND COURSES: All students accepted into the program will be enrolled in ELFH 696 or EFH 596: Global Human Resource Development. ELFH 596/696 will substitute for ELFH 490 (undergrad) or ELFH 605 (grad): both are

leadership survey classes. If a student has already taken 490 or 605, they will be able to work with their advisor to find a suitable substitute class, such as the internship class, program evaluation class, or other class as approved by their advisor. In addition to the coursework abroad, students will attend two mandatory 2-hour (online) class sessions in the Spring (TBA). Please note that the $3500 program fee includes tuition.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Global Human Resource Development will develop students’ global leadership competencies as they explore global human resource development in Scotland and England.

While in the UK, students will:

  • Attend the 3-day UFHRD conference, Power and possibility: unleashing the potential of HRD: This theme reflects the regional location of this year’s conference host city, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.  The area surrounding Newcastle is home to Europe’s largest and most efficient auto plants and the world’s largest manufacturer of electric vehicles.  The conference will offer students the opportunity to examine the implications of power relations within organizations and the implications for learning and development interventions.   
  • Develop and lead a Staff Ride: Students will select a leader (from William Wallace to Colonel Jim Porter) and an historical site that they will use to design and facilitate a staff ride presentation for the class.  Staff ride facilitation will include critical thinking questions pertaining to leadership and culture.
  • Visit companies in and around Newcastle-upon-Tyne: Company visits will provide students with opportunities to identify, articulate, and analyze current and emerging cross-cultural trends, challenges, and ethical issues in leadership.  Companies visited may include J. Barbour & Sons Ltd. (English luxury fashion brand), Greggs PLC (largest bakery chain in the UK), and Procter & Gamble Ltd.
  • Visit historical and cultural sites in Edinburgh and Newcastle-upon-Tyne: From Arthur’s Seat to Newcastle’s Castle!

APPLICATION INFORMATION & ELIGIBILITY:Applicants must be enrolled in ELEOD programs including Organizational Leadership and Learning (OLL), Human Resource and Organization (HROD) and Higher Education Administration (HEA).  The application deadline is March 17, 2018.  As program size is limited, early application is strongly advised.
