Marybeth earned her MA in Expressive Therapies from the University of Louisville in 1993. She spent over 13 years at Peace Hospital, (formerly known as Our Lady of Peace), where she grew the art therapy program from two art therapists to more than triple that amount. She also created and developed their first pet therapy program.
Marybeth’s main interest is healing trauma. Her therapeutic interests are diverse, as she is also certified in EMDR therapy, PEAT, Havening Techniques and Sandtray therapy. She also does animal assisted therapy and is active with WAGS (Wonderful Animals Giving Support) pet therapy group, as a team evaluator.
She has served three terms as WAGS’ president, as well as been on the KYATA (Kentucky Art Therapy Association) executive board several times. She will be president of KYATA in 2024, transitioning off the board in in 2027. Marybeth spent eight years on the state licensure board where she served as Chair of the board.
Marybeth has maintained a small private practice since 1993 where she continues to work with people of all ages. In 2005, Marybeth became the Clinical Coordinator of the Art Therapy Program at U of L. She teaches several foundational classes in addition to electives in sandtray and expressive therapy techniques.
Marybeth is active with dog rescue groups, serving as a foster home at one point, to now doing transport and home screenings. She and her husband Brian, share their home with five dogs (Neapolitan Mastiffs and Bullmastiffs), and a Caique named Vinnie van Go. Marybeth creates art in her free time in addition to enjoying gardening, reading, and home improvement.
