Theatre Arts student stars in Actors Theatre of Louisville’s ‘A Christmas Carol’
Kala Ross, a graduate student earning her MFA in performance in UofL’s Department of Theatre Arts, scored a highly competitive and coveted role in the cast. She’s playing the characters of Belle and Mrs. Fred, as well as a member of the ensemble.
Congratulations to A&S graduate student Eric Shoemaker for publishing an article!
Eric Shoemaker is a second-year student in the Humanities Ph.D. Program and a University Fellow. He is a poet, a translator of Federico García Lorca, and is working towards a dissertation focusing on magical poetics and the creation of community and lineage through writing. A paper Eric wrote for one of his courses at U of L is being published in the journal Signs and Society in November: Congratulations, Eric!
Environmental Studies student is a 2019 Fulbright Scholar
Sanders graduated from UofL in May of 2019 as a double major in Anthropology and Environmental Studies with a minor in Russian Studies. Prior to receiving the Fulbright award, she was named a Vogt and honors scholar and received both the Anthropology and Liberal Arts departments’ Awards of Merit.
Fulbrights: Breaking 100!
Eleven recent College of Arts & Sciences graduates have earned 2019 Fulbright scholarships, a prestigious international award coveted by many high-achieving scholars. That means all but one of the twelve 2019 UofL Fulbrights got their degrees from A&S. Since 2000, A&S has produced an impressive 101 Fulbright scholars!

UofL freshman and political science major Quintez Brown is already making quite an impact. So much so, even former President Barack Obama has taken notice.
A&S student Evan Gora to speak at Dec. 14 winter commencement
The University of Louisville’s winter commencement will be 7 p.m. Dec.14 at the downtown KFC Yum! Center. Of the more than 1,300 students on track to graduate this semester, 875 plan to take part in the ceremony.
Middle Eastern Studies alum awarded $25,000 Mary Churchill Humphrey Scholarship
Dever, who is pursuing a master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies with Arabic, is funding much of his graduate education through the Mary Churchill Humphrey Scholarship — a UofL College of Arts and Sciences prize that provides up to $25,000 for graduate study in the United Kingdom.

Double scholarship awards for Political Science major Devin Brown
UofL grad ‘speechless’ from winning Fulbright and Critical Language Scholarship in the same year. Devin Brown will study at Azerbaijan University of Languages as a Critical Language Scholar before embarking on his Fulbright scholarship in the fall semester.

Scholars from the University of Louisville have once again earned some of the most prominent awards in academia. This year (2018) has been especially impressive due to the large number of scholarships, as well as the level of prestige/academic study associated with these awards. Is there an easy way to screen for alzheimer's? What's the difference between alzheimer's and dementia? Lauren Flaherty is a doctoral student in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences who has studied these memory issues. Lauren discusses the issue on UofL Today with Mark Hebert.
