Artist talk with Peter Williams and UofL Gallery Director Chris Reitz
Painter Peter Williams was scheduled to deliver a much-anticipated artist talk at the Cressman Center for Visual Arts on March 20th. Unfortunately the pandemic, and calls for social distancing, struck Kentucky before he arrived. Nevertheless, the show must go on, and so Williams and curator Chris Reitz staged a remote conversation, recorded here and presented in dialogue with video of the work.
UofL interior design students gain experience through homeless veterans project
In the fall of 2019, Valerie Fuchs, a part-time professor at the Hite Art Institute in UofL’s Department of Fine Arts, tasked her interior design students with designing a few rooms and raising funds for the Louisville Hotel for the homeless.

Fine Arts Prof. Ché Rhodes named Educator of the Year by Louisville Visual Art
Ché Rhodes, professor of glass at UofL’s Hite Art Institute, has been named “Educator of the Year” by Louisville Visual Art, the area’s largest arts collective. He’ll receive the honor at the third annual Louisville Visual Art Honors Luncheon 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on February 7, 2020.

Mural project provides platform for A&S student artists
Mattie Perez (Program Assistant, Sr. – Advising) exhibited a love of art from an early age, but her interest waned as a college freshman. “I didn’t see a future for myself as an artist,” she says. Fortunately, her supportive coworkers in Advising reignited this passion, encouraging her to create the large chalkboard wall now visible in the 1st floor advising lobby of Gardiner Hall. Working alone, Perez chalked a different mural every week for nearly two years before deciding this could be an excellent opportunity to support and encourage undergrad student artists. Thus, the A&S Featured Artist project was born.
