Friday April 27, 2018
9:00am - 5:00pm
Room 300, Bingham Humanities Building,
Belknap Campus, University of Louisville
The "We Are Louisville" Hackathon is an all-day social justice and advocacy event that brings together community leaders, community members, students of all levels, and faculty to help welcome and support immigrants and refugees in Louisville. This year, our aim is to populate the existing "We Are Louisville" website with the personal stories of members of our immigrant and refugee communities. Storytelling is one of the most powerful ways to share our common humanity and initiate change in our communities.
Please join us on Friday, April 27 to participate in this important work!
These are some of the ways in which you can help out on the day:
- Share your story
- Interview community members and help write copy
- Be a volunteer translator
- Be a part of the website development and design team
- Produce photographs or short film content
- Help build an Instagram feed for the project
- Help develop a technical solution to designing a shareable story platform
- Help facilitate conversations between groups
A hackathon is an all-day event that seeks to create innovative digital solutions to community problems. Participants do not have to be present for the whole eight hours – any time you can spare will be anenormous help. Thanks to the sponsorship of CCHS and the English Department, free coffee, breakfast, and lunch-time pizza will be provided. Whether you're a technological whizz, an avid Instagrammer, a powerful writer for public audiences, or an absolute beginner, you will be a valuable member of our team as we work together to help support and safeguard Louisville's vulnerable populations at this crucial time.
