Statement on Attorney General's Announcement

UofL's College of Arts & Sciences is committed to justice and equity, and thus stands in solidarity with those demanding justice in the wrongful death of Breonna Taylor. Breonna Taylor's death was unnecessary and is emblematic of a system of racial oppression that has shaped our society for 400 years. Attorney General Cameron's decision is unsettling for our community. This injustice demands that we all engage in changing the system that endorsed this horrible tragedy.

As a start, we support the proposed bill, "Breonna's Law," which would prohibit no-knock searches in Kentucky. We must ensure that the death of Breonna Taylor, and the wrongful deaths of other Black and Brown people, lead to systemic change that brings about greater justice in our community. This requires the commitment of each of us to the project of seeking racial justice.
