Visitors attending
Dean Willihnganz discussed the division and distribution of the
funds for annual merit raises. The Dean will follow the policy previously
passed by the faculty. 5% is available for merit raises; the
Dean will take one half of the amount exceeding 3%, i.e., 1% and distribute
this at her discretion (with appropriate consultation with Chairs, and
the A&S Personnel Committee) to solve problems and salary inequities
that have arisen due to low merit raises in prior years. There was
considerable discussion about how the actual division would be made.
Discussion continued after the Dean left. The Committee unanimously passed the following resolution.
The Planning and Budget committee recommends that the Gender Equity Adjustment be taken from the Dean's Discretionary Pool. The committee notes that, excluding the money going to the unfilled lines and term appointments, less than 75% of the salary pool available to tenured and tenure-track faculty would be distributed through the departmental merit process by the alternate plan.
The next meeting was set for Thursday, April 22, from 1:00 to 2:00
