Staff Supervisor Award
Nominated by Gregory Rudd
A&S Dean’s Office
Mr. Mark Rubenstein has the responsibility of coordinating all technological needs for 800+ users, 17 buildings, classrooms, computer labs, research labs, auditoriums, and off campus events. He also functions as the face of A&S for all technology to U of L's I.T. Department. Mark is also the supervisor for two direct report employees.
“Mark has always made sure we have the tools, training, and supportive environment needed to complete any required assignment. He is always willing to do the work himself when needed, or team up to make the job easier on everyone involved. He leads by example, and holds himself to the same standards he requires from his employees.”
“I have worked for Mark for five years. In that short time, I have been out for the birth of three children, a house fire, and surgery. Even with these added stressors in my personal life, Mark has made sure I am in the proper state of mind to represent the Dean's office to all our users. He has been understanding of any needed time off to care for the kids, or any of my other issues. Mark has also made sure that these events were never an inconvenience to any of our users. I have also been enabled and encouraged to pursue any training to improve my knowledge of work responsibilities, or university procedures.”
“Knowing I have Mark's support in any decision I have made makes it easier to accomplish the hard tasks that occasionally occur with our users. He also shows this same empowering attitude in every technology meeting I have been part of on a university level.”
“I have always believed leadership is the ability to delegate, inspire and communicate effectively. Mark demonstrates these abilities daily.”
“In my professional career I have had the privilege of working under all kinds of managers. I have always done my best to absorb the positive traits, and apply them to my own management style. I look forward to applying the kind hearted ness and approachability that Mark brings to the job.”
