Year: Junior Email: APGUER01@louisville.edu My advice to first year students is to not be afraid of putting yourself out there. Go to interest meetings, get involved, talk to your classmates. Part of college is having fun and being part of a community. There's always something for everyone here! |

Howdy new Cards! My advice to y’all is to never be afraid to stop and say hi to someone you don’t know. Being from out of state I know how lonely it can be to feel like just a number in a huge campus. The more you allow yourself to get involved, the smaller and more homey campus will feel. I also encourage you to find a good balance between school and rest. It is important to not lose yourself in either. You got this, go Cards! |

Year: Senior
I've spent the last few years immersing myself in the study of government, policy, and civic engagement. While my academic pursuits have certainly shaped my worldview, I've also come to realize the importance of being open to trying new things. Throughout my college years, I've made a conscious effort to step outside of my comfort zone and explore new opportunities. Whether it's joining a student organization that's unrelated to my major, trying a new hobby, or meeting new people from different backgrounds, I've found that each experience has taught me something valuable and helped me grow as a person. My advice to anyone, regardless of their major or background, is to be open to trying new things. You never know what you might discover about yourself, the world around you, or what new passions and interests may arise. So don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and embrace new experiences - you might just surprise yourself!

I am a first generation college student. My biggest piece of advice to first-year students is to step out of your comfort zone and always communicate. There is no one on campus who is unwilling to help in whatever you may need. Everyone on campus wants you to succeed and will be happy to help or point you to someone who can help even more. Even other students can help, making friends in a big city is scary but it is necessary. There are so many kind people who would love a new friend as well. |

Year: Sophomore Hi, incoming Cards! If there's anything you should know, it's that time flies on campus, so make the most of it! Don't stress about making big-picture decisions as fast as possible. Instead, let them come naturally by exploring all your options! Giving yourself space to take in new things also gives you an environment to thrive. Take different classes! Explore other fields! Study abroad! Try interdisciplinary internships! Do the stuff you're interested in sooner rather than later. In your first few semesters, exploration is crucial to building a skillset for a successful future. |

Year: Junior My advice to first- year students is to become comfortable with making mistakes. Looking back at the past few years, i realized that mistakes are going to naturally happen, so accepting them and learning from them is key to having a less stressful experience. Sometimes things might not work in your favor but it's okay. From my experience I wished I wouldn't have stressed over the things that I couldn't control. With accepting mistakes it only helps you grow as a person to become the best person |

Year: Senior My advice would be to set your priorities straight right off the bat and hold strong to those. Stay true to your principles. Outside of this, I highly encourage all first year to get involved. Take a step outside your comfort zone, find somewhere you can make an impact, and make lifelong connections!

Year: Sophomore The best advice I would give to first-year students is that it is okay to feel out of place! The transition from high-school to college is a subtle change, but you do lose the structure of seven classes a day, so my best advice is to make your own schedule! Utilize the time in between classes to study and get homework done. I also suggest that studying out of your room helps as well! Find what suits you best and remember to take care of your well-being! |

Hi Cards! My advice to first-year students would be to stay open-minded and not fear the unknown. Coming into college I was incredibly scared of what was to come, scared of not doing everything correctly, of not embarrassing myself, and of fitting in. The great thing about college is that everyone is as lost as you. People are still trying to figure themselves out, experiencing new things, and constantly putting themselves out of their comfort zones. Don’t let fear get in the way of the next phase in your life! |
