As UofL's largest academic unit, the College of Arts & Sciences offers a diverse range of opportunities from dozens of departments and programs in the natural and physical sciences, the social and behavioral sciences, and the arts and humanities. A degree from Arts & Sciences provides a solid foundation upon which to build future academic, professional and personal successes.
Our students learn how to think critically; but they don’t just think, they do. They explore, create, research, communicate, collaborate, and meaningfully engage in the world around them. As a result, graduates of UofL’s College of Arts & Sciences are adaptable, innovative, and highly attuned problem-solvers. They are lifelong learners who are well-equipped for the work force and primed to make significant contributions to their chosen professions and respective communities.
Fall literary series will feature poets, novelist
Poets and a novelist will interact with University of Louisville students and faculty about their work when they come to campus this fall for a literary series featuring distinguished writers.
A&S Grad Penny Heaton named Alumna of the Year
Penny Heaton, chief executive officer of The Bill and Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute, is the 2018 Alumna of the Year. The prestigious honor is bestowed upon alumni of the university who have used their education to give back to their communities and the world through their work.

Hydrogen Fuel Research Tests Sustainable Catalyst Development
Scientists at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Ky., are working on a method to generate hydrogen fuels that significantly lowers energy use. This research on catalysts for hydrogen attracted combined funding of more than $1 million from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Department of Energy (DOE).

Dever, who is pursuing a master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies with Arabic, is funding much of his graduate education through the Mary Churchill Humphrey Scholarship — a UofL College of Arts and Sciences prize that provides up to $25,000 for graduate study in the United Kingdom.

Double scholarship awards for Political Science major Devin Brown
UofL grad ‘speechless’ from winning Fulbright and Critical Language Scholarship in the same year. Devin Brown will study at Azerbaijan University of Languages as a Critical Language Scholar before embarking on his Fulbright scholarship in the fall semester.
