The Division of Medical Humanism and Ethics,

University of Louisville (UofL)

The UofL Division of Medical Humanism and Ethics seeks to explore connections among humanism, ethics, and professionalism for students and physicians who serve on the advancing edge of medical science.

The Division of Medical Humanism and Ethics has a long history of being responsible for leading University of Louisville (UofL) medical humanism and ethics educational efforts in the Health Sciences Campus (HSC), by integrating educational efforts within the HSC, and between the HSC Campus and other UofL Schools, while also coordinating research and education with a network of affiliated scholars.

The Division of Medical Humanism and Ethics plays a pivotal role in ongoing innovation in humanism and ethics education and research by having administrative autonomy in supervising program goals, objectives, execution, and allocating resources for the following venues:

  1. Humanism, ethics, and professionalism education within the course Introduction to Clinical Medicine (Years 1 and 2);
  2. Ethics and professionalism education in the clerkship education (Year 3);
  3. Leading interdisciplinary education endeavors in the Medical School and in all UofL residency programs, and;
  4. Leading collaborations between the medical school and other UofL schools, such as the Interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Bioethics and Medical Humanities.
