Undergrads present summer research Aug. 3
Undergraduate students will present the results from their 10-week summer research experiences Aug. 3, from noon to 3 p.m., at Kosair Charities, CTRB Lobby, HSC. Participants in the Cancer Education R25, IMPACT REU, KBRIN, Physiology Cardiovascular, SROP, Cancer Center High School students, and students supported by External Fellowship, will present.

Criminal Justice Ph.D. student earns NIJ fellowship
Ph.D. student Cassandra Rauch (Criminal Justice) recently received a $32,000 NIJ Graduate Research Fellowship in Social & Behavioral Sciences to conduct dissertation research  focused on standards, education, training, and national certification of the Louisville Metro Police Department crime scene unit. Rauch was assisted by Susanna Cornett in the A&S Research Office in submitting the grant request, and she holds a BA in Anthropology and an MA in Criminal Justice, both earned at UofL.

Prof. Peteet presents at Jerusalem Fund
Prof. Julie Peteet (Anthropology/Middle East & Islamic Studies) presented the keynote lecture on "Conceptions of Mobility" at The Jerusalem Fund, in Washington D.C. July 11.

Prof. Keeley featured in National Catholic Reporter
Prof. Theresa Keeley's (History) presentation, "Nuns, an Ex-Nun, and Reagan: Debating U.S.-Central America Policy," from the Conference on the History of Women Religious was featured in Global Sisters Report of the National Catholic Reporter.

#PICLOU event takes place Aug. 13
University of Louisville Photographic Archives and Yelp Louisville are teaming up to present the first Picture Louisville Vintage Photo Scavenger Hunt Aug. 13, which will kick off at 11 a.m. with light refreshments at the Cressman Center for Visual Arts and will take about two hours to complete.

Participants will be given 10 vintage photos taken in downtown Louisville. They’ll race to find where those spots are and snap a picture of the current location with the vintage photo proving they found it.

Gill Holland plans apartments, retail for Portland corner – (Insider Louisville, 7/25/16) – On a new planned development in Portland led by developer Gill Holland, which will house apartments aimed at faculty and students working in the new MFA studio space in the neighborhood.

Framing same-sex marriage in terms of equality may help encourage more African-Americans to support it (London School of Economics US Centre’s American Politics and Policy, 7/19/16) – Profs. Laurie Rhodebeck and Jason Gainous’ (Political Science) research on African-American support of same-sex marriage.

Meet Tropical Ecology Prof. Steve Yanoviak

Steve Yanoviak

Prof. Yanoviak (Biology) spends his summer hoisted high above the rainforest floor in the tree canopies of Barro Colorado Island, Panama. Specializing in the ecology and behavior of rainforest insects, Dr. Yanoviak leads a growing team of students and divides his time between the classrooms on Belknap campus and the forests of Barro Colorado.
