Call for Nominations 2016-2017

Please take the time to nominate your faculty and staff colleagues for a 2016-17 A&S award. Awards will be given at the College’s Celebration of A&S Excellence at the Red Barn in spring, 2017 (date TBD). In addition, the winners of each qualifying award category will be forwarded to the President and/or Provost’s Offices as the College’s nominations for the corresponding University-wide awards.   The various awards include the A&S Distinguished Faculty Awards, the Outstanding Performance Awards for staff, the Supervisor Awards, the Diversity Champion Awards and induction into the Hall of Honor.

The committee reserves the right to obtain additional and/or supporting information regarding the nominees.

Be sure to submit your nomination(s) by the deadline on January 11, 2017

full-time faculty and staff, employed at UofL as regular status. Eligible candidates must be nominated by an employee who they currently supervise or have supervised in the past.

WHAT IS AWARDED: $500 and a plaque-mounted certificate

  • Maintains a work environment which demonstrates and supports work/life balance, professional development and performance management
  • Demonstrates equitable and respectful treatment of all staff
  • Motivates peers and employees
  • Demonstrates other leadership qualities

WHAT IS AWARDED: $500 and a plaque-mounted certificate

CRITERIA: Nominees need not meet all criteria outlined in the nomination form, but the nomination must recognize the employee's service orientation and describe how the employee went above and beyond their normal job duties. Consideration will be given to these factors:

  • Exhibited a commitment to serve students, the general public and/or university colleagues
  • Sustained a high level of productivity and consistent quality of work
  • Demonstrated a high degree of initiative in the performance of job functions
  • Displayed exceptional dependability
  • Maintained effective relationships with others
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Enhanced the university’s image through professional publications and public service

WHO IS ELIGIBLE:
full-time faculty who have been employed by the University of Louisville for the five preceding years. Persons meeting these criteria who are or have been on sabbatical or other leaves are eligible for nomination. The nominee mus not have previously won this specific award.

WHAT IS AWARDED: $500 and a plaque-mounted certificate

TOTAL AWARDS: 5 (submit one nomination packet per nominee per category)

  • Basic and Applied Sciences
  • Social Sciences
  • Humanities
  • Creative and Performing Arts
  • Career Achievement

CRITERIA: The recipients of the awards will be selected on the basis of:

  • exceptional scholarship, creative work and/or research recognized nationally and/or internationally. Unsolicited national/international awards and invitations may identify established reputations of scholarship or creativity.
  • outstanding quality and impact of work throughout his or her career

WHO IS ELIGIBLE:
full-time and part-time faculty who have been employed by the University of Louisville for the five preceding years and have not previously won this specific award. Full-time faculty must be tenured, tenure-track, or contracted.

WHAT IS AWARDED: $500 and a plaque-mounted certificate

TOTAL AWARDS: 2 (submit one nomination packet per nominee per category)

  • Full-time faculty
  • Part-time faculty

CRITERIA: The nominee's teaching methods and ability will have demonstrated these specific qualities:

  • Breadth and Variety
  • Inspiration
  • Currency (i.e., effective modeling of pedagogical principles and effective use of technology in instruction)
  • Forethought
  • Flexibility
  • Motivation for Professional Development
  • Mentorship, i.e., generosity in outlook and the encouragement of scholarship

full-time faculty who have been employed by the University of Louisville for the five preceding years. The nominee must not have previously won this specific award in the five preceding years

WHAT IS AWARDED: $500 and a plaque-mounted certificate

TOTAL AWARDS: 5 (submit one nomination packet per nominee per category)

  • Service to the University of Louisville
  • Service to the profession
  • Service to the community, the Commonwealth and/or the region
  • National/International Service
  • Career of Service (should be some combination of the above)

CRITERIA: The nominee will have demonstrated work drawing upon her/his expertise and is an outgrowth of an academic discipline or the faculty's position at the University. Evaluation must be only of faculty service contributions for which no compensation has been received.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE:
This award is for faculty and staff of the College of Arts & Sciences who embody a commitment to diversity and to constructing an inclusive campus community.

WHAT IS AWARDED: $500 and a plaque-mounted certificate

TOTAL AWARDS: 2 (submit one nomination packet per nominee per category)

  • Faculty
  • Staff

CRITERIA: A Diversity Champion demonstrates these these qualities:

  • an understanding that a commitment to diversity means focusing on dismantling the unjust structures that systematically marginalize or exclude some, while privileging and advantaging others
  • works consistently to promote an inclusive campus community at UofL
  • an on-going commitment to diversity
  • an understanding of how the commitment to diversity is an integral part of the College’s mission and inseparable from the goal of excellence in achieving that mission
  • goes beyond their job description or student responsibilities to accomplish these objectives


Nomination instructions


WHO IS ELIGIBLE:
A&S alumni, students, faculty, administrators, staff or other supporters who made the most significant and lasting contributions to the College, the University, the local community and the larger society since the establishment of the College in 1907.

WHAT IS AWARDED: A medallion will be given to the winner and a plaque will be installed onto the Wall of Honor at the Life Sciences building

TOTAL AWARDS: 1

CRITERIA: Nominees for the Hall of Honor may include:

  • A&S alumni/ae who exemplify or exemplified the liberal arts tradition of knowledge in service to the local community or the larger society.
  • A&S faculty, staff, administrators or other special supporters who contributed to the establishment and later development of the College.
  • Faculty, staff, administrators and alumni/ae who were affiliated with Louisville Municipal College (1931-1951), the Department of Music (before 1937) or the Department of Education (before 1967) who meet the criteria stated for #1 and #2 above.
  • Others not included in #1, #2 or #3 above whose significant contributions can be documented.

Nomination materials will be reviewed by the Hall of Honor Committee. Nominators are welcome but not required to submit documentation in addition to the nomination form that illustrates a nominee’s contributions as outlined above. The Committee will then make its recommendation to the Dean, who will make the final selection of inductees for each year. Due to the nature of the award, the nominee does not need to be alive to receive the award.
