Our Policies

Eligibility and access
- Our services are reserved for individuals with active UofL IDs (this is necessary for logging in) and affiliated community partners.
Appointment policies
- Writers can make a maximum of three in-person appointments per week or two online appointments and one in-person appointment per week. Exceptions to this policy can be made but require documentation from the Disability Resource Center.
- We do not switch online appointments to in-person appointments or in-person appointments to online appointments.
- Appointments begin on the hour and last for 50 minutes. We do not extend appointments for any reason, including for writers who show up late.
- Back-to-back appointments are allowed sparingly and must be approved by an administrator.
- Writers who make and miss three appointments will have their account suspended and will need to contact writing@louisville.edu and potentially speak with an administrator to have it reinstated.
Materials and printing
- We will print a limited number of pages for writers who prefer to work with hard copies during an appointment. We will not print material at the end of an appointment or for non-appointment purposes.
Center etiquette and behavior
- We ask that writers working in our space refrain from engaging in behavior that may distract other writers. This includes:
- Talking on the phone.
- Leaving the ringer on a loud setting.
- Eating pungent foods or messy meals.
- Only service animals are permitted in the Writing Center. Humans too, but they have to be housebroken.
- We reserve the right to end sessions and refuse further services for behavior deemed inappropriate.
