Community Herbal Gathering
The Community Herbal Gathering (CHG) is a new initiative developed by Prof. Shelby Pumphrey (Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies and Pan-African Studies) and co-sponsored by the Pan-African Studies Department and Play Cousins Collective, a local community organization rooted in African ancestral methods of healing, resilience, and liberation.

Dr. Treva Lindsey is a professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the Ohio State University and co-founder of the Black Feminist Night School at Zora’s House. She is the author of America, Goddam:Violence, Black Women and the Struggle for Justice (2022).
Racing With Sex Hormones
2021 Minx Auerbach Lecture in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies welcomes Dr. Rebecca Jordan-Young this year. Dr. Jordan Young is an interdisciplinary feminist scientist and science studies scholar whose work explores the reciprocal relations between science and the social hierarchies of gender, sexuality, class, and race. She is the author of Brain Storm: The Flaws in the Science of Sex Differences; and Testosterone: An Unauthorized Biography.

The Anne Braden Institute received the 2019 southern regional W. K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Award. The award was given for their work with the Fairness Campaign to research and write the 1st LGBTQ State Historic Context in the nation, housed at the National Park Service.

Growing and Glowing
Every Monday, a group of African-American middle-school girls gathers at the Louisville Urban League to talk, reflect on their experiences, and be inspired. This is the Girls League of the West, or GLOW, a weekly afterschool program established by A&S students Maya White and Mahogany Mayfield in partnership with the Louisville Urban League.
Sociology/WGS Faculty and Graduate Students Co-Author Study on Motherhood, Media, and Body
Karen Christopher (Sociology/WGS), Brittany M. Williams (WGS M.A., 2013), and Jennifer Sinski (PhD candidate, Sociology) recently published an exploration of the ways mothers' perceptions of their own postpartum bodies are affected by popular magazine profiles of celebrity moms. The project grew out of Williams's Master's thesis.
