ACT

The University of Louisville Testing Services, conveniently located for students in the Indiana and Kentucky region, is a national ACT test site. We also administer the ACT On-Campus test for prospective University of Louisville students.

There are two types of ACT: The National ACT and the ACT On-Campus test.

The National ACT exam is accepted at ANY institution which requires the ACT exam for admission. You have to register for this exam through ACT, either online or by obtaining a registration packet from a university or local high school. The exam is offered 5-6 times a year and the scores take 4-6 weeks to be mailed to you and the schools that you request. Visit the National ACT website for online registration, test prep and frequently asked questions regarding the National ACT.

ACT On-Campus testing at the University of Louisville is designed for those who are enrolled, have been admitted, or have applied to U of L. This ACT exam form is ONLY accepted at the institution where it is taken. Therefore, an ACT On-Campus exam taken at U of L is NOT transferable to any other institution. If you are considering more than one school, believe you might transfer to another school, or want your score made available to another agency, you should take the National ACT exam. ACT On-Campus scores are NOT usually mailed to examinees. They are made available to our Admissions Office on the first business day following the test administration. You may view only your Composite ACT On-Campus score (only after you have applied for admission to U of L and paid your application fee) on your personalized admissions page on your ULink account by clicking ULink > Undergraduate Admissions > View my Undergraduate Application Status > Application Status > Test Scores > VIEW ALL

Retesting Policy

Within any three-month period, University of Louisville students are permitted an initial test and two retests. There must be a two-week waiting period between the initial test and the first retest. Students should be encouraged to use the two-week waiting period for study and review of test content areas in which they did not obtain a passing score. ACCUPLACER tests have high test-retest reliability coefficients, a measure of consistency of scores obtained by the same person when reexamined with the same test on different occasions. This means that if students retest without review and study, there is a high probability that their scores will not change appreciably.  A review of ACCUPLACER data shows that two weeks is the optimal waiting period since it allows students adequate time to locate study materials and sufficient time to review them thoroughly. Candidates who do not pass the retest MUST wait three months from the date of the initial test to take a 3rd time.   The third attempt must be scheduled with Testing Services through a referral of an academic advisor.  The timeline constraints are the responsibility of the student and if not followed may result in the scores being invalid.  The testing fee will be collected upon each administration according to the option used for test administration.

Process for RETEST of Accuplacer Placement exam:

  • If your ACT/SAT does not allow you to take the Math class you need/want for your anticipated major
  • take Accuplacer, if the necessary score was earned, then register for the class; if not then
  • study for a minimum of two weeks and retake Accuplacer, if necessary score was earned, then register for class; if not then
  • meet with an advisor to develop a plan to learn missed material, once material is completed, the advisor will refer the student to Testing Services for a third attempt at least 3 months after first attempt.  If necessary score was earned, then register for class; if not then take the appropriate prerequisite class.

Score Expiration Policy:

Students with SAT, ACT, KYOTE or Accuplacer scores older than one year should register to take the Accuplacer for a more accurate math course placement.

ADA Accommodations:

If you have received ADA accommodations such as reduced distraction, a reader or a scribe from U of L's  (502-852-6938), please call our office BEFORE scheduling any exam.

The ACCUPLACER placement exams are UNTIMED, so no ADA accommodations are required for extended time candidates.
