Foreign Language Placement & Test Out
Foreign Language Placement Tests are available to students who have high school studies in a foreign language. Testing Services offers a pencil/paper placement exam in Latin. The fee for the Latin placement is $15 and required upon registration. Click here to schedule your appointment during the hours of Monday-Thursday between 7 am and 5 pm. We are closed on Friday! You will select Group: Latin Placement Exam and then will select the date and time you would like to take your exam. You MUST enter your U of L Student ID number during registration. You will pay the fee online with a debit/credit card and then will receive a confirmation email. If you need to reschedule, the directions to reschedule will be listed on your confirmation email.

Students having a background in a foreign language through other means should contact the Classical and Modern Language Department (852-6686) before registering to take any of the Foreign Language Placement tests. You may be eligible to receive credit for any course out of which you place. All results are subject to departmental approval and policies. Further information on those policies can be found in the undergraduate catalog.
To receive foreign language credit by exam please visit the CLEP information page You may be able to gain up to 12 hours credit for scores in Spanish, French and German. It is highly recommended to take the CLEP test if you score high on your foreign language placement exam in any of these languages.
ADA Accommodations:
If you have received ADA accommodations such as extended time, reduced distraction, a reader or a scribe from U of L's Disabilities Resource Center (502-852-6938), please call our office BEFORE scheduling any exam.
The LATIN exam will NOT be offered during Freshmen Orientation Sessions...please schedule a time PRIOR to your Orientation date.
The day of testing you will be required to bring a government-issued photo id.
We do not allow personal belonging (purses, backpacks, cellphone, keys, watches, fitness trackers, etc.) inside the testing room.
If you bring any prohibited items, you will be required to leave them in your assigned locker in our office. You will be scanned with a metal detector before entry into the testing lab.
