Cayuse

Cayuse is a cloud-based, electronic research administration system designed to support the full research project lifecycle. Integrating multiple research applications across a single web-based platform, Cayuse enhances the efficiency of the research management process, streamlines compliance activities and enhances communication and collaboration across the research enterprise.

UofL’s instance of the Cayuse system includes the following applications, expected to rollout on a phased basis beginning in early 2024:

  • Platform Home (Live) – Access and review your profile, manage your individual task list, and navigate to individual Cayuse applications
  • Proposals (S2S) (Live) – Federal grant application development and submission through Grants.gov
  • Sponsored Projects (SP)  (Under Implementation) – Internal administration of proposals and awards from external funders/sponsors
  • Animal Oversight (IACUC) – Administration of animal care and use protocols and related reviews and approvals
  • Hazard Safety (IBC) – Administration of biosafety protocols and related reviews and approvals

NOTE: Administration of Conflict of Interest (COI) disclosures and human subjects research/IRB protocols and related reviews and approvals occurs within UofL’s instance of the iRIS system.

Can I continue to use the legacy systems I’m familiar with?

Legacy systems will be discontinued once the new Cayuse applications are fully implemented. COI disclosures and human subjects research/IRB administration will remain in iRIS.

Getting Started

Upon entering the Cayuse system, you will land on the Cayuse Platform (Home) screen where you can:

  • Access and update your individual user profile (aka My Profile) – My Profile contains your university personnel data that will be used by the research applications within Cayuse 
  • Navigate to each research application by using the Products dropdown menu to access Proposals (S2S), Sponsored Projects, Animal Oversight/IACUC, or Hazard Safety/IBC
  • Review and act on tasks that have been created by or assigned to you using My Tasks
  • Access the Cayuse Help Center for articles and instructions that will help you solve problems and enhance your user experience
