Frankfort Legislative Internship Program

This program provides an opportunity for University of Louisville students in any major/college to apply for a real world, resume-building academic internship for credit. The program places interns in individual legislator’s offices. Interns contribute to the office’s functions with a range of activities that can include policy research, tracking bill status, and constituent relations. The internship counts for 3 academic credit hours in Political Science and all interns will receive at least a $250 stipend to help offset expenses for travel, professional clothes, and meals in Frankfort.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE? All students enrolled at the University of Louisville are welcome to apply. Selection is based upon academic qualifications, prior experience and skills, interest in state government, and potential for successful contributions to assigned internship placement. Please check with your academic advisors to confirm whether/how this internship will work with your degree requirements, electives, and timetable for graduation.

WHEN: Applications are due October 30th with interviews in early November and two mandatory orientations (if accepted) in December and January. Interns serve from the beginning of the session in January until (at the latest) the last week of classes in the UofL academic calendar. Interns will need to be available to go to Frankfort 8:00 am - 5:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the spring semester. The Kentucky General Assembly calendar varies depending on whether it is an odd or even year. Any student applying for the program must be willing to commit for the entire time of the internship.
