AHA Basic Life Support
Basic Life Support (BLS)
This instructor-led BLS course provides the ability to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide high-quality CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. This course teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on High-Quality CPR and team dynamics.
This course is 4.5 hours long and the course fee is $60.
Heartcode BLS
This online course presents all of the above through a blended learning delivery method. Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, followed by a hands-on session. Once the online portion is completed and test is passed you must schedule with an Instructor to come in for a skills check.
The cost for the online portion is paid directly to the American Heart Association.

The Skills Check-off will take place in the Paris Simulation Center and takes 1.5 hours. The cost is $50 as of 5/15/2024.
After successfully completing the BLS Course, students will be able to:
- Describe the importance of high-quality CPR and early defibrillation
- Recognize the signs of someone needing CPR
- Use an AED
- Perform high-quality CPR on adults, children, and infants
- Provide effective ventilations for adults, children, and infants
- Perform as an effective team member in a multi-rescuer resuscitation
- Relieve choking in adults, children, and infants
Details
BLS Books are provided the day of the course, however if you want them ahead of class they are available for rental at the Kornhauser Library at any time. ECards are issued the same day of the course to your email. Courses have a minimum class size of 3 and require reservations. Contact us for more information and reservations.
