![]() | University of Louisville and University Physician's Urology is happy to announce Dr. Jessica Schardein, currently completing her two-year andrology fellowship, has accepted a position with our department beginning September, 2024. Dr. Schardein specializes in sexual medicine and infertility. Her clinical interests include male, female and transgender sexual dysfunction, men's health, hypogonadism, and male infertility. We are excited to have her join the team! |

Our complement increase from two to three new residents for a total complement of 15 in 2028! We are are truly honored and look forward with great expectation of growing our program. So many great changes are happening within the program! |

Dr. Uzoma A. Anele, MD, Director of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery was announced program director of the urology residency program on July 1, 2023. Dr. Anele has proven to be an incredible asset to both the program and the department. With tremendous leadership skills and a passion for teaching, and we are excited to see where he will lead the program in the future! Video - Get to Know Dr. Anele Dr. Anele areas of interest include male genitourinary reconstruction and prosthetics, pelvic cancer survivorship, male urinary incontinence, robotic surgery, urethral stricture disease, urinary fistulas and neurogenic bladder. He earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland, undergrad career at the University of Maryland, a fellowship at the James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in NIH-funded urologic research, an internship in General Surgery and residency training in Urologic Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University and finally, a fellowship in genitourinary reconstructive surgery and prosthetic surgery at the Glickman Urological & Kidney Institute, Cleveland Clinic Foundation. | |

Dr. Murali K. Ankem, MD, MBA, former program director of the urology residency program at University of Louisville has been appointment Vice Dean and Designated Institutional Officer of Graduate Medical Education at University of Louisville School of Medicine. The University of Louisville School of Medicine welcomes its newest class of residents and fellows to the Cardinal community. This year’s incoming class of 245 individuals is a testament to our continued efforts to a diverse and inclusive learning environment. Among them, 47% are female and 53% male, highlighting the importance of gender balance in our community. Additionally, 20% Asian, 4% Hispanic/Latino, 2% are African American, 0.5% American Indian/Alaska Native, and 5% Multiracial/Not specified individuals. Murali Ankem, MD, vice dean of Graduate Medical Education, expressed his excitement about the incoming resident class, stating, “I am inspired by the diversity of our resident class this year. It reflects the university’s commitment to cultivating an inclusive learning environment where all learners feel valued and supported in pursuit of medical excellence. As we embrace different perspectives and backgrounds, we strengthen our ability to address the unique healthcare needs of our diverse Louisville community’s patient population.” The University of Louisville School of Medicine is dedicated to providing a transformative educational experience for its residents, fellows and other learners.
