Anatomic Pathology

The Division of Anatomic Pathology serves as a regional resource for anatomic pathology services required for patient care throughout the University of Louisville Health System and comprises the following specialty sections: Autopsy Pathology, Cytogenetics/Molecular Pathology, Cytopathology, Hematopathology, Neuropathology and Ophthalmic Pathology, Pathology Informatics, and Surgical Pathology. In addition, the Surgical Pathology section provides subspecialty level service in the following areas of expertise: Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology, Breast Pathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology, Genitourinary Pathology, Gynecologic Pathology, Head and Neck Pathology, Hepatic and Pancreatobiliary Pathology, Pulmonary Pathology, and Transplant Pathology. The Division also supports several educational and clinical training programs at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and UofL Health System. In addition to medical student education and residency training in Anatomic Pathology, advanced fellowship training is currently available in Cytopathology, which is accredited by the ACGME, and Surgical Pathology. Reflecting the Division’s academic mission, faculty members are collectively engaged in a wide variety of research programs from basic science to clinical and translational investigations, including the development of new techniques in Anatomic Pathology.
