220 Abraham Flexner Way, Suite 1500

Dr. Raja Jani joined the University of Louisville Department of Neurological Surgery Residency Program during his sixth postgraduate year. He earned his medical degree at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine-Middletown. He started his neurosurgery residency at the Saint Barnabas Medical Center, which later merged with Rutgers New Jersey Medical School’s residency program. During his fifth postgraduate year, Dr. Jani completed an enfolded fellowship in functional neurosurgery with Dr. Joseph Neimat and transferred to UofL the following year.

Dr. Jani had an untraditional path to medicine, graduating with a degree in Media Production from the University of Rochester. His first exposure to patient care came while working as a transitional-age youth and adult case worker at Community Behavioral Health in rural Maryland. Developing an interest in improving access to care and health care systems, Dr. Jani decided to formalize his education in health care administration. While working at CBH, he earned a master’s degree in health administration at The George Washington University. After developing several metrics to facilitate a culture of data-driven health care decisions and achieving Joint Commission Accreditation for CBH, Dr. Jani continued to have an interest in direct patient care and applied for medical school at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Jani’s research interests include investigating biomarkers for psychiatric disease, neuromodulation for psychiatric illness, and understanding quality metrics for systems-based care. His clinical interests include functional neurosurgery, general neurosurgery, trauma, and spine.
