Dr. Jill Penman graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2018 earning her Doctor of Medicine (MD). She previously earned an M.S. in physiology of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in 2012 at Georgetown and a bachelor’s in English literature in 2008 at University of Chicago. During medical school, Dr. Penman was involved in the Volunteers in Medicine clinic. She was a Judith Wible Visionary Women in Medicine Scholarship Finalist and completed training in developing ideal medical practices. Dr. Penman is also trained as a yoga teacher (RYT-200) and served on the wellness committee at IU School and Medicine leading semi-annual yoga and meditation workshops for the medical students.

Before becoming a resident with University of Louisville’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Department, Dr. Penman completed a transitional year at the Indiana University School of Medicine Methodist Hospital.  During that year she worked on ongoing research projects with the Departments of Addiction Medicine and Anesthesia Pain.

Since joining University of Louisville’s PM&R Residency Program, Dr. Penman has focused her scholarly efforts on SCI and improving mobility in the bone marrow transplant patient population. Her clinical interests include complementary and integrative health as well as chronic pain. She is currently exploring with physicians in the fields of incarceration medicine how to improve access to rehab services for inmates.
